Get closer to nature with the Toledo Zoo's Garden Tour Series

Members of the zoo's horticulture staff will guide you through the ins and outs of gardening

TOLEDO, Ohio — Roses are red, violets are blue... come learn more about both at the Toledo Zoo!

The Toledo Zoo is inviting you to to brush up on your gardening skills and grow that green thumb. 

The zoo is offering a Garden Tour Series guided by a member of the horticulture staff. Discussion will surround different gardening topics, including growing tips and best management practices that can be applied to home gardens as well. It will familiarize guests with the zoo's expansive gardens and grounds and how plants and flowers change throughout the seasons.

The tours will meet in front of Ziems Conservatory 15 minutes before starting and will last 90 minutes, rain or shine. Guests should dress appropriately for the weather and wear comfortable walking shoes, since the tours may cover the entire zoo.

Cost per person and per tour for the Garden Tour Series is $10 for Toledo Zoo members and $15 for non-members. Space is limited and reservations are required.

2020 Garden Tour Series Dates and Topics:

  • Saturday, July 11 at 9:30 a.m. - Stop and Smell the Roses
  • Tuesday, July 21 at 10:30 a.m. - Stop and Smell the Roses
  • Tuesday, Aug. 18 at 10:30 a.m. - Flowering Perennial Care
  • Tuesday, Sept. 22 at 10:30 a.m. - Discovering Native Plants
