HANCOCK COUNTY, Ohio — The National Weather Service has confirmed tornadoes in Hancock and Crawford counties after Thursday's severe weather event, although surveys of damage are still ongoing.
The NWS Cleveland Office dispatched survey teams to areas across northern Ohio and confirmed a tornado in Hancock County. According to the agency's report, an EF-1 tornado touched down near SR 235 and SR 103, west of Bluffton. The tornado reached wind speeds of 100 mph, lasted for six minutes between 7:30 p.m. and 7:36 p.m. and traveled 3.3 miles.
A second tornado, an EF-2, was confirmed to have touched down northeast of New Washington in Crawford County, continued east into northern Richland County, and lifted along Willet Road east of Plymouth Township. The EF-2 had wind speeds of 120 mph, with a maximum width of 250 yards. The tornado was on the ground between 7:54 p.m. and 8:13 p.m. and traveled for slightly over 10 miles, the National Weather Service said.
The National Weather Service also confirmed an EF-3 tornado in Logan County. The storm resulted in substantial damage and at least three fatalities.
