Gas prices in the Toledo-area went up almost 14 cents in the last week.

A gallon of gas costs, on average, $3.30 in Toledo as of Monday, according to a GasBuddy survey of 315 gas stations in Toledo. The price is also now 18.8 cents higher than it was a month ago.

The GasBuddy survey found the cheapest station in Toledo was priced at $3.08/gallon, while the most expensive was $3.40/gallon. Statewide, the range was $2.79/gallon to $3.99/gallon from least expensive to most expensive.

Nationally, Toledo gas prices are tipping the scale compared to the rest of the country. In a survey of 150,000 gas stations cross the U.S., the average price of a gallon of gas was $3.26, a figure that has seen a wide fluctuation in prices, according to GasBuddy.

The average price of a gallon of gas in Toledo for Feb. 19 is the highest it has been on this date since 2021:

  • Feb. 19, 2023: $3.12/gallon (U.S. average: $3.37)
  • Feb. 19, 2022: $3.24/gallon (U.S. average: $3.53)
  • Feb. 19, 2021: $2.65/gallon (U.S. average: $2.61)

"Roses are red, violets are blue, Valentine’s is over, and gas prices are going anywhere but lower," said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy.

"With Valentine's Day now behind us, we have officially entered the time of year when gas prices traditionally start their spring fling, but we've already seen the streak of consecutive increases in the national average hit four weeks. While the early start could also mean an early end, we still have as many as 8 weeks that gas prices typically increase, and anything can happen between now and then. One of the most critical elements to how much gas prices will climb is how quickly and effectively refiners can finish their pre-summer maintenance, start producing EPA-mandated summer gasoline and build up supply of it before Memorial Day."
