Looking for a fish fry? Here's where you can get your fix in the 419

It's time for traditional Lenten fish fries. Here are some of the region's finest.

TOLEDO, Ohio — It's officially fish fry season! The sounds of sizzling oil and the scent of deep-fried goodies are a sure sign that spring is near.

While observing Lent, Catholics must give up eating meat on Fridays. Thankfully, there are plenty of options to snag a plate of some delicious battered fish right here in the 419.

Here is a quick look at some local fish fries:

Toledo-area fish fries

Toledo Catholic Diocese

Most Blessed Sacrament

  • Where: 4255 Bellevue Road, Toledo, OH 43613
  • When: 4-7 p.m. on Feb. 16 and Feb. 23; and March 1, March 8, March 15 and March 22
  • All you can eat: $15 adults, $13 seniors, $10 ages 6-10
  • Why visit? This Toledo parish and school's fish fry dinners are baked or fried and come with French fries or baked potato, macaroni and cheese, rolls, coleslaw, drinks and dessert. Takeout is available and children 5 years old and younger eat free with the purchase of an adult meal

Our Lady of Perpetual Help

  • Where: 2255 Central Grove, Toledo, OH 43614
  • When: 5-7 p.m. on Feb. 16 and Feb. 23; and March 1, March 8, March 15 and March 22
  • Price: $10-15
  • Why visit? Our Lady of Perpetual Help offers one of the most popular fish fries in the area for Lenten. Running every Friday from Feb. 16 through March 22, this fish fry's menu includes fried or baked pollock meals with discounts for seniors and kids. Baked potato or fries, coleslaw or applesauce is included and more sides are available for $5. Also on the menu are shrimp tacos and a shrimp basket, and homemade desserts. OLPH's fish fry is dine-in, drive-thru or carryout

St. Boniface Catholic Church

  • Where: 215 North Church St., Oak Harbor, OH 43449
  • When: 4-7 p.m. on Feb. 16, Feb. 23 and March 1
  • Price: $13 for adults, $8 for children
  • Why visit? This Oak Harbor church offers options for dine-in and carryout. It features the usual fried fish as well as sides like hush puppies, macaroni and cheese, coleslaw and french fries. There is also dessert and a salad station. Coffee, water and punch are included, and soda is available for sale

Heather Downs Country Club

  • Where: 3910 Heatherdowns Blvd., Toledo OH 43614
  • When: 4-8 p.m. every Friday in Lent
  • Price: $17.99
  • Why visit? Bogey's Bar and Grill at Heather Downs Country Club offers a perch dinner with French fries, hush puppies and coleslaw. There is also an option for kids meals. The fish fry is open to the public

Maumee Eagles Aerie 2562

  • Where: 2301 Detroit Ave., Maumee OH 43537
  • When: 5-8 p.m. every Friday in Lent
  • Price: $14
  • Why visit? The Eagles serve up fried pollock each Friday during Lent. If you're in the mood for something a little different, you can also enjoy an 8 oz. steak for $16 or four chicken tenders for $11

VFW Post 2898

  • Where: 3925 W Alexis Road, Toledo, OH 43623
  • When: 5-7 p.m. every Friday in Lent
  • Price: $12
  • Why visit? This Veterans of Foreign Wars post serves Alaskan pollock, fries and coleslaw every Friday from Feb. 16 to March 29. Not a fan of fish? You can also get chicken tenders. Dinner is dine-in or carry-out

VFW Post 2984

  • Where: 102 W Andrus Road, Northwood, OH 43619
  • When: 5-7:30 p.m. every Friday in Lent
  • All you can eat: $13
  • Why visit? This Veterans of Foreign Wars post boasts a long-running, popular all-you-can-eat fish fry every Friday during Lent. The menu includes chicken, steak, shrimp and more along with a kids menu and dessert table. Dinners include sides like bread and butter, cole slaw and french fries. You can also enjoy karaoke after the dinner from 7:30-11:30 p.m.

VFW Post 4906

  • Where: 2161 Consaul St., Toledo, OH 43605
  • When: 5-7 p.m. on Feb. 16, March 1, March 15 and March 29
  • Price: $18 dinner, $10 sandwich with chips
  • Why visit? This Veterans of Foreign Wars post has some impressive variety. In addition to Lake Erie perch, you can also choose from shrimp, frog legs or a combo dinner. Fries, coleslaw, bread and dessert are included and takeout is available
