Ottawa County resale shop funds local food pantry

The Lighthouse Center Resale Shop in Gypsum helps feed an average of 50 families a week.

GYPSUM, Ohio — A couple in Ottawa County have dedicated their life to serving their community through their ministry Seed Faith Missions.

Between Port Clinton and Marblehead sits the tiny community of Gypsum.

Which is where you'll find the Lighthouse Center Resale Shop, brimming from wall to wall with boutique items.

"Google even had us at one time the No. 1 most visited resale shop in Ohio, and they come from all over," said Marie Berry, president and chief executive officer of Seed Faith Missions

Berry said 100% of the items in the store are donated. All of the proceeds from sales go to Seed Faith Missions.

"Anything that is nearly new or gently used can be donated, and that helps us keep our mission going," Marie Berry said.

The mission operates a food pantry that serves patrons once a week. Every Monday at 10:30 a.m. for the last nine years, the Seed Faith Pantry has helped feed an average of 50 families a week.

In the cold months, Marie Berry said the need will be even greater.

The Berrys rely on donations to stock the pantry and they rely on volunteers to help keep it running.

"We want every volunteer that comes here to fell that they are part of it, because they are. Without them, we could not do it," Philip Berry said.

"Any high school kids who need community service hours, this is a great place to get them," Marie Berry said.

The Berrys hope to eventually move their operation to Main Street Port Clinton and set up a soup kitchen, fellowship hall and more programming.

"It comes back to strengthening families, bringing together the families as a whole as a unit. When our families are strengthened our communities are strengthened," Marie Berry said. "I mean, we all prosper from a strong family."
