New library program helps residents score free, discounted tickets to local events

All you need is a library card and you are ready to go!

TOLEDO, Ohio — Do you have a library card? Then you may be able to experience the arts in Toledo, while spending a lot less.

Residents can score free or discounted tickets to a variety of area events, all through the Toledo Lucas County Public Library's new Discovery Pass program. All you have to do is log in with your library card to see offers for area events with The Arts Commission, Toledo Symphony and Ballet Theatre of Toledo and Imagination Station.

“Part of the Library’s mission is connecting people to information and experiences,” digital strategist at Toledo Library, Andy Lechlak, said. “We have those relationships with area partners, and can help facilitate that connection.”

The program has been in the works for two years.

“I think the Library is trying to provide that equal access and opportunity for everyone through having free resources. If we can help provide those experiences they would not normally be able to afford or attend, we’re fulfilling part of that mission,” Adult Services Coordinator Tim Hagen said.

Major library systems representing New York City, Contra Costa County of northern California and Illinois statewide have already implemented similar programs that have proven to be successful.

Don't worry if you don't live in Lucas County, you don't have to in order to take part!  Any area group interested in joining Discovery Pass should contact Hagen at 419-259-5249 or tim.hagen@toledolibrary.org.
