Miller Ferry passengers to Put-in-Bay, Middle Bass required to wear face masks starting July 8

Kids six and under, as well as people with disabilities, mental health conditions or medical conditions which would restrict their ability to wear a mask, are exempt

PORT CLINTON, Ohio — Passengers on their way to Put-in-Bay and Middle Bass Island will be required to wear face coverings on Miller Ferry vessels starting Wednesday, July 8.

Travelers are encouraged to bring their own coverings, but one can also be purchased at the ticket window for $1.

Masks will not be required while inside your vehicle, but vehicles must be turned off while on board the ferries.

If social distancing measures are followed on the docks, representatives with Miller Ferries said that masks will not be required, but highly recommended.

Children six and under, as well as people with disabilities, mental health conditions or medical conditions which would restrict their ability to wear a mask, are exempt from the new policy.

The move comes shortly after an outbreak of coronavirus was reported on the island, tracing back to three of the area's bars and restaurants.

Leaders with Jet Express announced their own service adjustments due to the virus on Monday. Jet Express ports in Sandusky, Cedar Point and Kelleys Island will not open for the 2020 season as high water levels make social distancing difficult amid the pandemic.

However, as of Monday afternoon,  representatives said the Port Clinton terminal with service to Put-in-Bay will remain open and will continuing operating as usual.
