University of Toledo student killed in collision with train in Wood County

Ohio State Highway Patrol said Daniella Gamboa Pabon, 25, died from her injuries at the scene.

OTTAWA COUNTY, Ohio — One person was killed in a collision involving a train and a car in Wood County Tuesday morning.

Multiple agencies responded to Fostoria Road between State Route 795 and State Route 51 near Millbury and Allen Township at approximately 9:45 a.m.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol said the preliminary investigation shows a car driven by Daniella Gamboa Pabon, 25, of Toledo, was southbound on North Fostoria Road when her vehicle was struck by an eastbound train.

OSHP said Pabon succumbed to her injuries at the scene.

The incident remains under investigation.

Pabon was in her fourth year of pursuing a doctorate in the University of Toledo's Biomedical Science Program, according to a social media post from the university's College of Medicine and Life Sciences. She was studying neuroscience and neurological disorders.

Biomedical Science Program students are organizing a candlelight vigil in front of the Block Science Health Building on UT's campus Thursday at 10 a.m. Attendees are asked to bring a candle and something to light it with.
