Woman's home title no longer a headache after calling 11 Investigates

Lori Edwards will now be able to make necessary repairs to her home after her title issue was fixed after working with 11 Investigates.

TOLEDO, Ohio — 11 Investigates first brought you Lori Edwards' story in July 2023 after her mobile home title was incorrect, causing headaches when it came to making repairs to her home.

11 Investigates also did a follow-up story in November 2023 because her title still wasn't fixed. The property managers said it would be a lengthy process and were working on the issue. In late December, we received a message from one of the managers and Edwards that her home title was finally fixed.

"They did not do anything until you all stepped in and said, 'Hey, we're going to bring some attention,' because I had been asking for the year past and now once you all stepped in, they said, 'OK, we should click our boots together and get moving,' because they got the attention they didn't want, but now they have the attention and maybe just don't do it again," Edwards said.

The title of her mobile home stated that her home was a 1976 Regent, but according to AREIS, the Lucas County online real estate information system, it's a 1997 Mansion Fiesta.

In July, 11 Investigates and Edwards found the data plate inside the kitchen cabinet where it would state the make and year, but it was ripped up.

11 Investigates made calls from one office to another and a trip to the clerk of courts.

We were finally told by the Sylvania Clerk of Courts' chief deputy over the phone that it was in the hands of the owners of the park and that the error could have happened on their end. The park is owned by Toledo MHP LLC.

When 11 Investigates was at the clerk of courts, we bumped into someone who might have answers: the mobile home park managers. We asked them why the title doesn't have the same information as the county auditor.

In November, the issue was still being worked on but Lori said her home couldn't be weatherized until she had the correct title. Her roof needs repairs, her floor needs to be sealed and a lot of other issues need fixed.

Now that her title is correct, she can get her home fixed for the winter. Edwards said she is ready to put this behind her and is happy to have this resolved.
