Toledo police officer convicted of sexual battery resigns amid internal affairs investigation

With his resignation, the internal affairs department declared the investigation into now-former officer Raul Jaso is closed, according to Toledo police records.

TOLEDO, Ohio — Officials with the Toledo Police Department say an internal affairs investigation into an officer convicted of sexual battery is now closed.

Raul Jaso submitted his resignation from TPD effective April 15. With his resignation, the internal affairs department declared the investigation into Jaso is now closed, according to Toledo police records.

Jaso was under administrative investigation for conduct unbecoming an officer after he was charged with felony rape for sexually assaulting a woman at his home in Northwood in August 2023.

Jaso pleaded not guilty to the charge, originally filed in October 2023.

After being told of the investigation, TPD conducted an internal investigation and relieved Jaso of duty without pay, pending the outcome of the case against him. At the start of the investigation, Jaso had been with the Toledo Police Department for six years and was regularly assigned to field operations, according to TPD.

TPD was informed on April 1 that Jaso entered a plea agreement of no contest to a reduced charge of sexual battery in Wood County Common Pleas Court to avoid trial, department records show. He was found guilty and must register as a sex offender.

Jaso is scheduled to be sentenced May 20.
