Rossford City Council member pleads not guilty to OVI

Christopher Heban, 40, was arrested Sunday night, according to court documents. He was also charged with hit-skip and failure to control.

ROSSFORD, Ohio — Rossford City Council member Christopher Heban pleaded not guilty Tuesday to operating a vehicle under the influence over the weekend.

Heban, 40, also pleaded not guilty to hit-skip and failure to control charges and waived his right of arraignment, according to court documents.

According to a police report, the incident occurred at the intersection of Glenwood Road and Santus Drive in Rossford at about 9:30 p.m. after police received a call for a reckless vehicle. Heban was then arrested and charged with OVI.

Body camera video released by Rossford police shows Heban's arrest.

In the video, he refuses a field sobriety test and has difficulty walking. Heban tells police he recently had hip-replacement surgery and an officer retrieves a cane from his truck.

Rossford Mayor Neil MacKinnon told WTOL 11 that he was informed Monday morning of Heban's arrest. The city has not released an official announcement of his arrest.
