OSHP: Michigan man, woman charged with fentanyl possession after traffic stop

Robert Lee Smith, 48, and Aisha Cochran, 45, were stopped for a speed violation on I-75 in Hancock Co. on Jan. 11. OSHP said troopers seized 183 grams of fentanyl.

HANCOCK COUNTY, Ohio — A Michigan man and woman face felony drug charges after Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers seized fentanyl worth approximately $27,450 in a traffic stop in Hancock County on Jan. 11.

Robert Lee Smith, 48, and Aisha Cochran, 45, both of Dearborn Heights, Michigan, were charged with possession of fentanyl -- a first-degree felony -- and incarcerated in the Hancock County Justice Center after troopers pulled their vehicle over for a speed violation on I-75.

According to OSHP, troopers smelled marijuana coming from the vehicle and Cochran, the driver, admitted to having used marijuana in the vehicle before.

A search of their vehicle revealed 183 grams of fentanyl in a magnetic box under the vehicle, OSHP said in a press release on Friday.

Eight grams of marijuana were found in the passenger area of the vehicle. Eight grams of "suspected crack" and seven grams of marijuana were found on Smith's person as well, OSHP said.

Smith was also charged with possession of cocaine and could face up to 12-and-a-half years in prison and a $25,000 fine if convicted, OSHP said. If Cochran is convicted, she could face up to 11 years in prison and $20,000 fine.
