Suspect arrested, charged with murder in Sunday shooting

The suspect is accused of killing a 19-year-old in north Toledo Sunday.

TOLEDO, Ohio — A suspect is in custody in the shooting death of a north Toledo victim.

Court documents confirm Toledo police arrested 25-year-old Treshaun Whitlock. Whitlock is accused of shooting and killing 19-year-old Najaye Owens in the head and chest in the 2100 block of Elm Street Sunday, police said.

Whitlock is charged with first-degree felony murder while attempting to commit a violent felony offense.

Police said they located Owens in the garage of the residence suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. The injury proved to be fatal, and Owens was pronounced dead at the scene.

In a press release Tuesday, police said Whitlock had been arrested Monday.

Owens' official cause and manner of death have not yet been released by the Lucas County Coroner's Office.
