Man sentenced in 2023 standoff, shooting that killed one in east Toledo

The shooting and standoff occurred at Albert and White streets in east Toledo in late September 2023.

TOLEDO, Ohio — A man was convicted and sentenced in a 2023 shooting and standoff, an incident that culminated in the death of Christopher Yglesias just over two months later.

Cory O'Conner entered an Alford plea to involuntary manslaughter in Yglesias' death Monday. A judge sentenced O'Conner to six to seven-and-a-half years in prison. O'Conner, who was initially charged with felonious assault after shooting Yglesias, was then indicted on a murder charge after the victim's death, before pleading to the lesser charge of involuntary manslaughter Monday.

O'Conner was arrested in late September 2023 following a standoff situation in east Toledo and for shooting 43-year-old Yglesias. First responders treated Yglesias on the scene and then transported him to the hospital. O'Conner was charged with felonious assault.
