Experience the winter chills in a new way: Bowling Green haunted house hosting off-season experience

Distracted Haunted House's winter and Valentine's Day-themed experience will be open Friday and Saturday from 7-11:30 p.m. inside Bowling Green's Woodland Mall.

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio — This time of year can be pretty bland for horror fans, which is why a haunted house troupe in Bowling Green is hosting a winter-themed haunted house experience.

Distracted Haunted House is entering its fourth season of operating at its location in Bowling Green's Woodland Mall.

Owner Scott Francis said along with the couple dozen days in October, he and his crew are usually in and out of the facility all year long.

"This space here was vacant for quite a while and had some issues," he said. "We've kind of helped take care of some of those issues with the space, made it active, made productive use out of it."

Now the Distracted crew is getting even more use out of the space hosting their first off-season haunted house called The Dead of Winter, which runs Friday and Saturday from 7-11:30 p.m.

"We like being scared, there are horror movies year-round, so it just kind of made sense," Francis said. "More haunted houses are doing Valentine's (Day), Christmas, different events throughout the year, so, we finally felt like we had the culture and the people in place to make that happen."

For weeks, the crew has been working to design and build an entirely new, winter and Valentine's Day-themed haunted experience.

"They all participate in their own way," said Jennifer Dazley, the haunted house's general manager. "We have artists, we have scare actors, we have costume designers, we have people who just have brilliant ideas."

The Winter Fright Nights will also include event photos, a visit from Krampus and free t-shirts for the first 200 visitors.

The Dead of Winter is an entirely new haunted house experience, specially put together for this event.

And since the haunted house is located inside the mall, you can wait for your spooky experience indoors.

"We are an all-indoor haunted house, so you will not have to be waiting outside," Francis said. "So you'll be warm, there will be queue line characters out here entertaining you and you'll be getting your photos with people."

But if you're planning on arriving later, make sure you're inside the mall by 11 p.m. to guarantee you'll get inside the haunted house.
