Severe weather expected in northwest Ohio during ALERT DAY Tuesday: 3 Things to Know

Be weather aware Tuesday evening for more widespread chances of severe weather with the possibility of large hail, damaging winds and tornadoes.

TOLEDO, Ohio — An ALERT DAY has been issued for the risk of strong to severe storms into the afternoon and evening Tuesday.

A round of showers and thundershowers will be possible from 1 p.m. to 4 pm. These are not expected to produce severe weather.

A second and more powerful round of thunderstorms will be possible after 6 p.m. Tuesday that may include damaging winds, large hail and the risk of tornadoes.

Here are the 3 Things To Know:

1. All modes of severe weather are possible Tuesday evening after 6 p.m.

This includes damaging wind gusts, very large hail and the risk of tornadoes. Torrential downpours may continue the risk of localized flooding.

The overall risk will be somewhat impacted by a round of showers and rumbles of thunder until 4 p.m.

How quickly our atmosphere is able to destabilize and provide storm energy in the second impactful round is still uncertain. The amount of wind shear, which may influence more widespread severe storms chances, is of higher confidence.

2. Tornado risk is increasing

The greater risk of severe storms and possible tornadoes will be greatest southwest of Toledo. The amount of twisting in multiple storm cells may produce the spinning required to influence the risk of tornadoes. The time to be alert will be 6 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Be prepared with a plan if severe weather does threaten and have mobile devices charged in case severe weather results in the loss of power.

Please have multiple ways to receive weather warnings and alerts, including the WTOL 11 Weather app.

The risk of severe weather will likely end by 11 p.m.
