If you're planning on traveling during the long weekend ahead, you're in luck!

GasBuddy says gas prices for the Labor Day weekend are expected to be the lowest they have been in the last three years.

The national average gasoline prices on Labor Day itself will likely be the third-lowest in the last decade at $2.55 per gallon, down nearly 30 cents from last year.

This price is behind just 2015 and 2016’s average of $2.42 and $2.20, respectively.

GasBuddy says prices are likely to stay down into autumn as the transition back to cheaper winter gas begins, with a handful of gas stations in the Great Lakes expected to drop prices under $2 a gallon barring any improvement in U.S. trade relations with China, a recent major factor in oil prices.

A new GasBuddy study also says the Great Lakes are close to average in terms of how many hours motorists need to work to pay their annual gasoline expenses.

Nebraska isn't so lucky as its residents need to work nearly 108 hours per year to pay for their gas while the national average is 88.9 hours.

Those in the Northeast got off easy, especially Massachusetts where residents only have to work 67 hours to foot the gas bill.

GasBuddy says the differences between the two states amounts to nearly an entire workweek every year.

The study was based on state-by-state median wage data from the Department of Labor and GasBuddy's payments card to calculate the yearly average.
