Ohio Department of Transportation delays I-475 ramp closures due to forecasted rain

The project, when completed, will feature wider lanes and better shoulders, an ODOT spokesperson said.

MAUMEE, Ohio — If you travel along I-475 near US 24, you might have noticed message boards announcing more ramp closures. They were scheduled to start Saturday, but they have been postponed.

After forecasted rain prompted the delay, work will instead begin sometime in the next two weeks, the Ohio Department of Transportation said.

"We're not going to start on March 9," said Ohio Department of Transportation District 2 Public Information Officer Kelsie Hoagland. "We expect a full day of rain on Saturday, so we cannot conduct that work as expected. But the plan is still going to move forward sometime in the next two weeks, so it's very important to be aware that these ramps will be closing."

Hoagland said the public should know that these closures will impact travel. When driving, the public should be prepared for detours and possible delays.

"The two different ramps that use the US 24 interchange are eastbound US 24 to southbound I-475 and westbound 24 to southbound I-475," Hoagland said. "If you're going to 24 southbound in any direction or if you're planning to travel southbound, you will be impacted by these closures."

Hoagland says the work has been completed north of the location, and congestion is less than when the project started.

"The project's overall impact is going to be wider lanes and better shoulders," said Hoagland.

Reduced congestion times and safer police operations when conducting daily business are cited as contributing reasons for the road work.

Currently, the lanes are narrower, increasing the drive time and making it difficult for traffic to flow freely.
