TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) - A suspect is in custody in connection to a shooting at 13th and Jefferson streets in downtown Toledo, where one person was shot.

Just after 9 a.m., police responded to the 200 block of 13th Street where Louis Barton was found shot.

An eye witness says they got into an argument outside of St. Paul's Community Center. Then Houston Hart, 27, went to his car and grabbed a gun out of the trunk. When he returned, he shot Barton three times. He then fled the scene.

Shortly after, tips led police to catch Hart in the 500 block of Adams Street near the LaSalle Apartments.

"Thankfully, we were able to apprehend the shooter fairly quickly over on Adams Street. He is in custody right now and at this point, it is just a matter of trying to figure out exactly what happened," said Joe Heffernan with the Toledo Police Department.

Barton was taken to a Toledo hospital with serious injuries. He is expected to survive.

Hart has been charged with felonious assault.

PK Huston says these two men have a history together.

"It was an ongoing thing with this other victim. I guess what I heard, that it has been ongoing and he asked the guy to leave. This guy had to do something," said Huston.

Huston says Hart is a cook at St. Paul's food pantry.

"He serves food for the homeless at St. Paul's. [As a] matter of fact, we were eating breakfast. He serves omelets and bacon and everything this morning. He would give the shirt off his back for anybody," said Huston.

Nearby streets were shut down while police and sheriff's deputies canvassed the area. The car was taken as evidence.
