Mud Hens begin season with fifth-largest Opening Day crowd ever

12,800 fans were in attendance for the Mud Hens Opening Day win. It's the seventh-largest crowd for any game ever at Fifth Third Field.

TOLEDO, Ohio — Plenty of fans packed into Fifth Third Field to watch the Mud Hens secure an Opening Day win over Nashville on Friday.

A Mud Hens spokesperson said 12,800 fans were in attendance for the game, making it the fifth-largest crowd ever for Opening Day. It's also the seventh-largest crowd for any game at Fifth Third Field which opened in 2002.

The Mud Hens beat the sounds, 4-2. Starting pitcher Matt Manning had seven strikeouts in five innings and only gave up one run on three hits.

Wenceel Perez had two runs batted in. Keston Hiura and Eddys Leonard each had one RBI.

The Mud Hens are home all weekend long against Nashville. Saturday's game will begin at 4:05 p.m. and Sunday's game gets underway at 2:05 p.m.
