Union Co. business owner joins race for state Senate nomination against Reineke

Ackison will be running against state Rep. Bill Reineke (R-Fremont), a Fostoria native and partner in the Reineke Family Dealerships with two of his brothers.

TOLEDO (WTOL) - Union County resident Melissa Ackison just announced she is seeking the Republican nomination for the state Senate seat that covers Sandusky, Seneca, Wyandot, Crawford, Morrow, Marion, and Union counties.

Ackison will be running against state Rep. Bill Reineke (R-Fremont), a Fostoria native and partner in the family-owned Reineke Family Dealerships with two of his brothers.

Both candidates are going after current state Sen. Dave Burke’s (R-Fremont) whose term limit is up this year.

Reineke announced his bid earlier this month saying he was ready to move his policies from the house to the senate.

“I’ve really enjoyed representing the 88th district, and I think a lot of the policies and procedures specifically with workforce and educational changes are things that I can parlay into the next other five counties. So, I’m really excited about doing that and I think it would just be a good fit,” Reineke said.

Ackison also runs a family business as she and her husband owns Ackison Surveying LLC.

“As an independent business owner and mother of four boys, I know what it’s like to struggle and make ends meet," Ackison said in a prepared statement. "It seems these politicians get elected, get comfortable in Columbus, cozy up to lobbyists, and leave the hard working men and women of this great state behind in the process. I fight to brighten the path for you and your family.”
