Oregon charter school on lockdown Wednesday, student in custody

Oregon City Schools says a local charter school located in Oregon, Eagle Learning Center, was on lockdown Wednesday due to a student having a weapon.

OREGON, OH (WTOL) - Oregon City Schools says a local Charter School located on Navarre Avenue in Oregon, Eagle Learning Center, was on lockdown Wednesday due to a student having a weapon.

Oregon police say they confiscated an Air Soft gun that the 17-year-old, male student had shown off to others at the Charter School. The student hid it in a laundromat next to the Eagle Learning Center.

Police say when they arrived at the school the student took them to where the gun was hidden

This student is in custody of the police and the lockdown lifted.

Oregon Police Chief Mike Navarre says the 17 year-old has been charged with two misdemeanors, inducing Panic and Violation of the Safe Schools Act. He is also charged with Illegal Conveyance of a Weapon on School Property, a felony.

Police say the 17-year-old was taken to the Juvenile Detention Center and will have a detention hearing Thursday.

Oregon City Schools were not involved. All students at the school were safe.
