New Millstream Career Center building to open Wednesday in Findlay

Findlay City Schools' new Millstream Career Center building will open to students on Wednesday.  Officials with the district say they expect the new building to attract more students to the center.

FINDLAY, OH (Toledo News Now) - Findlay City Schools' new Millstream Career Center building will open to students on Wednesday.  Officials with the district say they expect the new building to attract more students to the center.

The Millstream Career Center offers juniors and seniors from Putnam and Hancock Counties the opportunity to take classes in technical career fields including auto tech, auto detailing, engineering, construction trades, industrial arts, cosmetology and more.  Students can take classes at Owens Community College and the University of Findlay, and some even earn an associate's degree before graduating high school.

Officials say 520 students are currently enrolled in the center, but expect that number to grow when students see the new building.

"We had a large influx and when they see this building it's probably going to be more," said Findlay Superintendent Dean Wittwer.

Wittwer says construction on the building is almost entirely complete.  Workers just have to finish connecting the new building to the districts high school.  That will happen next summer.
