LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Hundreds of Ford Motor Company employees are facing layoffs after two major plants joined the strike.
Ford spokesperson Dan Barbossa said the United Auto Workers' (UAW) targeted strike strategy has ripple effects across the company.
Barbossa said 150 more employees at the Sterling Axel Plant were told to not go to work Wednesday because of the strike at Kentucky Truck Plant (KTP). This brings the total number of employees laid off as a result of the strike to about 700.
The auto workers on strike at KTP and the Chicago Assembly Plant have impacted six other facilities.
Those facilities are:
- Sharonville Transmission Plant
- Dearborn Stamping Plant
- Dearborn Diversified Manufacturing Plant
- Rawsonville Components Plant
- Sterling Axle Plant
- Chicago Stamping Plant
Four of the facilities are in Michigan. The Sharonville Transmission Plant is in Ohio and the Chicago Stamping Plant is in Illinois.
To date, there are three Ford plants on strike, meaning over 16,600 employees are on strike Barbossa said. A total of 10 facilities have had to lay off employees bringing the number of employees laid off to over 2,730.
That means over 19,000 employees total are impacted by the strike as of this writing.
It is still unclear if the employees at Louisville Assembly Plant will be called to strike or will be laid off.
