Roundabout coming to intersection near popular ice cream spot in Springfield Township

Mr. G’s Barn is a busy restaurant that serves ice cream, but the county says their success has contributed to a roundabout being built.

TOLEDO, Ohio — Roundabouts are coming to Springfield Township and a popular restaurant may be affected by one.

The Lucas County Engineer's Office said they have collaborated with Mr. G's Barn, a bustling restaurant known for its ice cream, to address traffic in the area.

The restaurant is popular because the lines wrap from the drive-thru alongside the shoulder, and they wrap around the intersection.

Mike Pniewski, Lucas County's lead engineer, said they have worked with Mr. G's to help develop a solution at the intersection of Hill Avenue and McCord Road with the construction of a roundabout.

"We've worked with the owners of Mr. G's over the last two years probably on the design for that intersection improvement in terms of the real estate that is required and how we can assist them in making improvements to that intersection," Pniewski said. "We have had negotiations for the past two years."

Pniewski said these roundabouts are not just about traffic flow improvement. They are a safety measure designed to significantly reduce the risk of fatal car crashes in the area.

"The intersection will be closed for at least 45 days but at the time, and we have done this for all of our closures, there will be access to that business," Pniewski.

Other roundabouts will be built at other intersections in Springfield Township in the future. To view a map of future roundabouts, click HERE.
