Vehicle allegedly runs red light, hits Toledo police car

The driver of the accused vehicle was treated for injuries.

TOLEDO, Ohio — A Toledo police vehicle was involved in a crash when another vehicle allegedly struck it in a west Toledo intersection Wednesday afternoon. 

According to a Toledo police report, officers were traveling eastbound on North Cove Boulevard, crossing Upton Avenue on a green light at approximately 3:30 p.m. At the same time, a driver traveling southbound on Upton Avenue allegedly ran the red light at North Cove, striking the Toledo police vehicle.

Officers said two witnesses, who were stopped at the red light when the driver ran it, corroborated the light's color at the time of the incident.

The police car sustained damage to the front and driver's side, and required a tow, police said in the report.

Additional police responded to the scene and issued a traffic citation to the driver of the other vehicle. The driver was also treated by Toledo Fire and Rescue, but the report did not specify the severity of their injuries.
