WAUSEON, Ohio — An Ohio Turnpike toll plaza in Fulton County will close for almost four months beginning April 15.

Toll Plaza 34, which connects to the turnpike at state Route 108 in Wauseon, will undergo major construction work during the closure and is scheduled to reopen on Aug. 24, according to the Ohio Turnpike and Infrastructure Commission.

“The existing pavement at the toll plaza interchange will be removed and replaced with new asphalt, drainage and guardrails,” said OTIC chief engineer and deputy executive director Chris Matta.

The turnpike on Tuesday began a new toll collection system designed to make the roadway safer, faster and more effective, according to the commission.

The entrance and exit ramps both eastbound and westbound at Toll Plaza 34 will be closed and there will be detour signs in place. The nearest detour interchanges are the Archbold-Fayette toll plaza off of state Route 66 and the Delta-Lyons plaza off of state Route 109.

“Ohio Turnpike staff have met with the Fulton County engineering department, Ohio Department of Transportation, and local emergency medical services units and fire departments to discuss the impact of the project, such as management of traffic, detour routes, emergency and safety procedures, and other concerns,” Matta said.

A temporary westbound ramp will be available for emergency personnel to access the turnpike in Wauseon during the closure.
