LUCAS COUNTY, Ohio — The Ohio Department of Agriculture (ODA) announced an extension on the enrollment deadline for H2Ohio producers in the 14 counties within the Maumee River watershed.

Farmers within the watershed coverage area are eligible to enroll new acres or re-enroll acres into the H2Ohio program. Eligible counties include Allen, Auglaize, Defiance, Fulton, Henry, Hardin, Hancock, Lucas, mercer, Putnam, Paulding, Van Wert, Williams and Wood counties.

H2Ohio was developed by Governor Mike DeWine in 2019 to improve long-term water quality by enforcing agricultural management best practices, restoring wetlands, and replacing home septic systems to reduce nutrients that contribute to algal blooms.

Those who are interested in the program have until Feb. 2, 2024, to enroll.

For more information on the program, farmers are encouraged to contact their local Soil and Water Conservation District.

Lucas County farmers can contact Lucas County SWCD at (419) 893-1966.
