Michigan man shot by Lenawee County sheriff's deputies

LENAWEE COUNTY, Mich. — Three Lenawee County sheriff's deputies have been placed on administrative leave following an early morning shooting just across the Ohio-Michigan border on Saturday, that has sent one man to the hospital.

According to a press statement from The Lenawee County Sheriff's Office, the shooting occurred around 1:25 a.m.  in the 13000 block of Neoroth Highway in Ogden Township. Neoroth Highway is just west of Metamora, Ohio.

Lenawee County 911 Dispatch Center received a call from the Fulton County Sheriff's Office requesting assistance in locating a man who allegedly shot into a home in a Fulton County .

The 53-year-old man was allegedly highly intoxicated and was believed to be in possession of a handgun. 

Upon arrival to the suspect's home, he was seen within the residence. 

According to the statement, Lenawee County sheriff's deputies identified themselves and requested that the man come out through the front door. At that point, the man refused and verbally threatened to shoot one of the responding deputies.

The man then came out the back door of the home armed with a handgun that appeared to be pointed towards the deputies, according to the sheriff's office. The deputies gave verbal commands as they retreated and fired at the man, striking him.

The sheriff's office says deputies then administered life-saving treatment to the victim, who was then transported to the hospital. He is currently expected to recover from his injuries.

None of the deputies involved were injured during the incident.

It is currently unknown how many times the man was shot, where he was shot or which deputies shot him.

The Lenawee County sheriff's Office has requested that the Michigan State Police conduct an investigation into the shooting.
