Michigan man killed in crash on I-75 in Wood County

WOOD COUNTY, Ohio — A Michigan man was pronounced dead at the hospital after a crash on I-75 in Wood County Wednesday evening.

Pedro Maldonado, 58, of Shelby Township, was driving northbound on the interstate in Middleton Township when he drove off the roadway and through a right-of-way fence just after 6 p.m., according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Maldonado then drove across a field and into the backyard of a home on Dowling Road where he struck a drain grate and a metal barrel.

He was taken by ambulance to Mercy Health — Perrysburg Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The cause of the crash is currently unknown.

Shelby Township is in the northern part of the Detroit metro.
