Columbus man charged with throwing brick through car, striking young girl in the head sentenced

Police said the brick shattered the driver’s side rear window and struck the girl in the head.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — A Columbus man charged with throwing a brick through a car, striking a young girl in the Hilltop neighborhood last year has been sentenced to prison.

Brandon Roberts, 30, was charged with felonious assault and arrested by Columbus Police SWAT following the incident on Oct. 23, 2023. 

Roberts appeared in the Franklin County Court of Common Pleas on April 29 where he pleaded guilty and was sentenced by Judge Andy Miller to four to six years in prison.

According to the Columbus Division of Police, a woman, a man and his child were traveling in a vehicle on Olive Street toward South Hague Avenue when someone threw a brick toward their vehicle.

Police said the brick shattered the driver’s side rear window and struck the girl in the head.

The child was taken to Nationwide Children’s Hospital with serious injuries. Franklin County Municipal Court records stated that the girl suffered a fractured skull and needed surgery to repair it.
