Fire at northern Ohio nursing home contained, residents safe

Two residents were transferred to a nearby hospital for precautionary measures. One firefighter was treated on scene for a minor injury.

WILLARD, Ohio — On Jan. 19, the Willard Fire & Rescue Department responded to a call about a fire just before 6 p.m. at Blossom Healthcare Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Willard, Ohio.

Upon arrival, firefighters found an active fire and began efforts to extinguish the flames. Patients within the nursing home were quickly moved to a safe area, before being transferred to other care facilities.

At the time of the incident, Fisher-Titus, a medical center that assisted on the scene, stated, "All residents have been accounted for and are being assessed accordingly."

The State Fire Marshall's office sent two investigators to the scene following the incident. They determined that a lightning strike was the cause of the fire.

According to Willard Fire & Rescue, several north central Ohio E.M.S. agencies, County agencies and Willard City Schools assisted with the scene.
