Coroner's office identifies person who fell from Ohio Stadium during commencement

An Ohio State spokesperson said the woman was a family member of one of the graduates.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Franklin County Coroner’s Office released the name of a woman who died after falling at Ohio Stadium during the university’s spring commencement on Sunday.

The woman was identified as 53-year-old Larissa Brady. A spokesperson for The Ohio State University said she fell from the stands. She was pronounced dead at 12:25 p.m. by medics.

The spokesperson said Brady was a family member of one of the graduates.

A large area near the stadium's Bell Tower was roped off while the death was being investigated. The commencement was not delayed or paused following the incident.

Police do not suspect foul play or an accidental fall, Ohio State said.

An investigation continues into how she fell from the stadium, which the school says is 136 feet tall.

The coroner’s office said the finalized autopsy report will be released at a later time.

Ohio State President Ted Carter expressed his sympathies to the family, saying in part, "You can imagine how difficult that was for us, thinking about those families."

Carter said he learned of the situation as they were going on stage, but didn't say anything about it during the ceremony due to lack of information at the time and out of respect for the family.

The spokesperson said the university made counseling and other support resources available. Students in need of support can call 614-292-5766 and press 2 for immediate assistance after hours.

The school also said those experiencing suicidal thoughts or in crisis should contact the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline by dialing 988.
