HENRY COUNTY, Ohio — A box containing a Korean War-era hand grenade and rifle rounds was found by a man cleaning out a vacant property in Henry County on Monday.

The man took the box and proceeded to drive to the Henry County Sheriff's Office, but decided to stop on the side of the road and call for assistance. A deputy arrived at the man's location and requested the Northwest Ohio Bomb Squad.

The bomb squad responded and identified the item as a Korean War-era hand grenade, but were not able to determine if the grenade was still live.

As a precaution, the grenade was detonated in an empty field near State Route 424 and County Road 3 in Henry County. The 56 rifle rounds were also taken by the bomb squad and will be disposed of at a later date.
