BEDFORD, Mich. — The Bedford Public Schools community is mourning the unexpected death of a beloved teacher.

Scott Earl, an 11th-grade English teacher at Bedford High School and cross country coach, died Tuesday morning, according to the school district.

Bedford Superintendent Carl Shultz said Earl gave his time and energy to the high school for 25 years in and out of the classroom and was a teacher, husband and father who dedicated his life to service.

"Scott was a dedicated teacher, he's a parent and former Bedford parent, community member, he's a coach and mentor; just an enthusiastic educator who loves kids he's given his heart and soul to this district for about 25 years now and his loss is just tremendous for this community and for the students and staff that have known him," Shultz told WTOL 11.

In particular, Earl will be known for his outgoing personality and contagious happiness.

"He brought passion, creativity, and unwavering dedication to his role, leaving an indelible mark on the lives of those he taught and coached. His commitment to excellence and the well-being of our students made him an invaluable and cherished member of our educational family," Shultz said.

As the Bedford community continues to mourn, Shultz said grief counselors are available to talk to any students or faculty members at the high school.
