Toledo-area basketball player charged with felony pleads not guilty to assaulting girlfriend

Chris Darrington is charged with strangulation for an incident that happened in July inside a north Toledo home.

TOLEDO, Ohio — A Toledo-area basketball player accused of assaulting his girlfriend pleaded not guilty to a felony count in Lucas County common please court.

Chris Darrington is charged with Strangulation for an incident that happened in July inside a north Toledo home.

A Toledo police report said Darrington attempted to suffocate his girlfriend with a pillow after finding something on her phone that he didn't like.

The report also stated the victim had to fight him off to escape and ran down the street for help. 

Darrington was indicted on Strangulation and Domestic Violence charges in late October. 

A trial for Darrington is scheduled to start in January 2024.

Darrington currently plays basketball for the Glass City Wranglers.
