Teen dies after police chase, crash in west Toledo Tuesday; 2 others injured

Police at the scene told WTOL they attempted to pull over a Chrysler Pacifica near Central and Upton but the driver fled the scene, leading to a chase.

TOLEDO, Ohio — Three people were hospitalized after a pursuit with Toledo police ended in a fiery crash early Tuesday. One of those victims, Jermaine Toler, 19, has since died.

The crash happened just before 1 a.m. on Central Avenue at Haughton Drive in west Toledo.

Police at the scene told WTOL they attempted to pull over a Chrysler Pacifica van near Central and Upton on suspicion of being stolen when the driver fled the scene, leading to a chase.

The driver lost control while trying to negotiate a northbound turn onto Haughton, police said in a report. The vehicle crashed into a metal utility pole.

All three people in the vehicle were injured. Police rendered aid until Toledo Fire & Rescue arrived to take over.

All three people from the vehicle were hospitalized for possible serious injures. Their conditions are unknown.

The impact of the collision caused part of the van to catch fire, which was quickly put out by fire crews.

According to a report from Toledo police, the driver of the vehicle was 17, and the passengers were aged 17 and 19. All three were transported to the hospital. One of the victims, Toler, suffered life-threatening injuries, police said. On Thursday, Toledo police confirmed Toler had died.
