TOLEDO, Ohio — UPDATE: Per a press release issued by Toledo police on Monday, the victim of the homicide has been identified. This story has been updated to reflect this new information.
Police crews responded to the intersection of Berdan Avenue and Watson Avenue in west Toledo on Friday, Dec. 30 regarding a person shot.
Toledo police arrived at the scene at approximately 12:19 a.m. They located the victim, 25-year-old Alfonzo Carpenter Jr., who was laying on the ground and suffering from at least one gunshot wound.
Crews treated Carpenter on the scene and transported him to the hospital by life squad where he later died as a result of his injuries.
Neighbors told WTOL 11 they heard at least one gunshot prior to police arrival minutes later. Both Berdan Avenue and Watson Avenue were blocked off to traffic while police investigated the scene.
Police did not name any suspects, but continue to investigate.
