DUNDEE, Mich. — One of four vehicles that was stolen along with cash and registration plates from a Dundee dealership in April has been recovered in Detroit, police said Monday.
The Dundee Police Department said in a social media post that the 2023 Dodge Charger stolen from the Williams Brothers Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram of Dundee in the early morning hours of April 20 was unoccupied and did not appear to be damaged upon its recovery.
The vehicle was returned to the dealership after a Dundee detective went to the Detroit police impound lot to process the Charger and some of its contents for evidence.
The investigation into the theft is ongoing.
Dundee police previously shared a security video that showed five masked subjects entering the dealership around 6 a.m. on April 20 after breaking a garage door window in the back of the building.
Once inside, police say the subjects broke into multiple safes containing keys, cash and vehicle plates. The stolen keys were then used to steal four vehicles: a 2024 Dodge Durango, a 2023 Dodge Ram, a 2024 Jeep Compass and the Charger.
Police said they believe the thieves are part of an "extremely-organized vehicle theft ring" that has been targeting car dealerships throughout the Great Lakes region.
Police state that evidence of the crime was found on the scene, including DNA and fingerprints. Security footage and other physical evidence were also collected.
