ReStore the Earth recycling event this weekend in Maumee | Go 419

The Habitat for Humanity ReStore in Maumee is once again hosting a recycling event to help people get rid of hard-to-recycle items.

MAUMEE, Ohio — A nonprofit store in Maumee known for giving home items a second chance is once again hosting an event to recycle hard to get rid of items.

Located on Conant Street, The Maumee Valley Habitat for Humanity ReStore offers many gently used and some brand new items for your home.

Communications manager Anastasia Ellis said along with helping people improve their homes with these items, they are also keeping these items out of landfills.

This is exactly why the ReStore began hosting a large-scale recycling event called ReStore the Earth as a one-stop place to drop off any hard to get rid of items.

"We want to be more green-minded, we want to be more eco-friendly, we want to be sustainable," Ellis said. "So it's a natural fit to host a recycling event because a lot of the items here are recycled."

On Saturday, the ReStore is partnering with Aim Ecycling so you can drop off electronics (no TVs), styrofoam, cardboard, tires, boat wrap and paper at no charge.

You can also recycle latex paint for a nominal fee.

The hope is if people have never visited the ReStore before, they can pop into the shop after they've dropped off their items for recycling.

"It's easy access to recycle all of these materials and we don't really make anything from it," Ellis said. "It really just helps more people become aware of ReStore. And then hopefully if they're out there recycling their items, they may pop in and check out what we have to offer if they haven't been here already."

"Maybe they'll think forward to, 'Now there is an option to recycle this, to reuse it, rather than just throw it away,'" Colleen Tankoos with the Maumee Chamber of Commerce said. "So I think there is a really nice education piece in this event."

This year is also the 20th anniversary of Maumee Valley Habitat for Humanity. They will be hosting special 20% off sales regularly at the ReStore throughout the year.

The ReStore the Earth recycling event is Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and the ReStore itself is open on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
