Community rallying behind Navarro family after home explosion tragedy

A Chicken Dinner Benefit to help the family is on May 25 at 3 p.m. at The River Church in Delta.

FULTON COUNTY, OHIO, Ohio — Delta and Lyons community members are working to pick up the pieces after a home exploded in Fulton County, killing two out of the four family members that were inside.

"We wanted to do something. We wanted to get more people involved and bring more people together. Because it is a tragedy," said Chelsea Taft, a Navarro family friend.

Taft is joining the Kovar Que Catering company and other Navarro family friends to host a Chicken Dinner Benefit on May 25 at 3 p.m. at The River Church in Delta.

The meals will be sold for $15 until food runs out. Pre-sale orders are also available.

"Nothing is owed back it's all given straight to them. Any money made off of this is 100 percent for them." said Taft.

The tragedy that struck on May 16 took the lives of the father and daughter of the Navarro family, but Fulton County residents said the survivors are not alone.

They say this event is just the first of many ways they hope to help.

"I'm also aware there are benefits planned for the future as well, so this isn't just it. We are going to continue to help this family out in any way we can. We have people donating clothes mattresses, anything that this family is needing people are stepping up and we are going to try to make this as easy of a transition because it's not going to be easy at any means," said Taft.

The first of these fundraiser kicks off shortly before the Benefit Dinner at 2:30 p.m. A raffle and auction will be held, and winners will be announced at 5 p.m.

The benefit dinner and fundraisers are open to everyone. Taft said coming together in tough times is just what small close knits towns do and they will offer their help to the Navarro family for as long as it's needed.

The community asks that you follow the parking instructions seen below to attend the benefit dinner.
