TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) - The Cherry Street Mission is on its way to having a new home. The mission is in the process of finalizing a deal to purchase the former Macomber High School building on Monroe Street.

The mission plans to move its entire ministry under one roof over the next few years.

Dan Rogers, president and CEO of Cherry Street Mission, says they have big plans for the old school, including renovations, as well as moving the food distribution center and overnight housing into the facility. Mission officials say their goals for the new facility also include bringing health care services on board. While renovating, they will put green initiatives in place to have green houses and plants on the flat roof. Plans will be put into motion once the deal is finalized.

Cherry Street Missions and the Macomber building both have strong foundations in the community. Combined, they have been around for more than 100 years. Rogers says they look forward to writing a new chapter in the city's history.

"When needed, that building has been called upon to serve the community at critical times. I love the fact that once again, the community is calling on Cherry Street Mission to re-engage that building for 24-hour use, when frankly, there's great need," said Rogers.

The mission plans to have a deal finalized within the next two weeks. Officials say they hope to have some services operating before the holidays.
