Greater Port Clinton Area Arts Council launches new Facebook page to connect member artists with customers

The page is not a market, and won't charge any fees. But the posts allow artists without their own online market to connect directly with customers.

PORT CLINTON, Ohio — This is the season to give back. So, we're introducing you to a local arts group that's connecting artists with customers to one another in hopes of forming a lasting relationship between them.

After a successful online art exhibit this spring, which is still ongoing, the Greater Port Clinton Area Arts Council wanted to harness that social media reach to help their local member artists.

Two weeks ago, the council partnered with ChrisKindle Market to create a new Facebook page.

This page is now accessible for member artists to post their artwork that is for sale this holiday season.

While many artists may have their own website, others who are just starting off may not have their own online market place.

So, the goal is this new face book page will connect the potential buyer directly with the artists.

Organizers know many people's budgets could be tight this holiday season, so they wanted to make sure their group was able to offer people a chance to purchase a unique gift, while also supporting local artists.

"So we're not involved. We just have a large reach, a large audience, so we wanted to kind of marry and get more people to buy local," Rebecca Booth with  Greater Port Clinton Area Arts Council said.

Now, this marketplace's Facebook page is only specifically for this current holiday season.

But the hope is the arts council can use this as a stepping stone towards launching a permanent marketplace website in the near future.
