Damp and dreary weather not enough to dissuade kids having good time at Lucas County Trunk or Treat event

Organizers said "rain or shine" and didn't back away from that promise. And it's a good thing. Over 2500 kids came out.

TOLEDO, Ohio — Lucas County Children Services hosted a daytime trick or treat on Saturday on the site of the former Libbey High School in south Toledo.

And despite the rain and below average temperatures, more than 25 hundred kids, decked out in all manner of Halloween costumes, made the rounds to collect their treats.

They event was “rain or shine”.

"Of course we had more rain than shine. The shine though, is all these faces behind us and the smiles with the candy and the giveaways and all that stuff that we're doing today,” said Kevin Milliken, with Lucas County Children’s Services.

Overall, there were 90 different trunk or treat stations, and 100 high school volunteers helping wherever needed.

Milliken says he's happy the event had a bigger turnout than last year, proving its importance to the community.

"It's to provide a safe, daytime trick or treating opportunity, not just for the families and children that we serve but the entire 43609,” said Milliken.

Nicole Spellis, with Vital Health agreed.

While it's the health center’s first time joining LCCS's trunk or treat event, she sees the necessity.

"Some might not be able to do Halloween. So this is their Halloween here, so we're pretty excited about that,” said Spellis. “Seeing the kids faces - every time we see them, we're pretty pumped.”

So whether you're a unicorn, a dragon, or a transformer, the happy faces of the kids, who got to enjoy a safe Halloween was well worth the cold.
