TOLEDO (WTOL) - The Toledo Walleye face off against the Cincinnati Cyclones tonight, and while they are laser-focused on advancing in the Central Division finals, Mayor Wade Kapszukiewicz might want to remind players there is more at stake.
As in hot dogs.
Toledo's mayor has a friendly wager with Cincinnati Mayor John Cranley on the outcome of the cities' ECHL series, which kicks off at 7:30 p.m. at U.S. Bank Arena.
If the Cyclones win the best-of-seven series, Kapszukiewicz pledges to send Cranley a Tony Packo's care package.
If the Walleye win, Cranley owes Kapszukiewicz coney dogs from Gold Star Chili.
“To me, there is no question the Toledo Walleye will win this series. So, I’m going to need to figure out how many calories are in the ‘Gold Star Coney Crate’ so I can continue to be successful on Toledo’s wellness and weight loss challenge even after I win this bet,” Kapszukiewicz said on Facebook.
The series moves back to the Huntington Center for Game 2 on Saturday, Game 3 on Wednesday, and Game 4 on May 3, and would return to Cincinnati for the last three games if needed.
Cincinnati is top-seeded and finished with the best record in the ECHL. Toledo’s record against the Cyclones this season was 4-5-0, winning twice at home, twice on the road, and once in overtime.
