NORTHWOOD, Ohio — Editor's note: On Wednesday, Ohio State Highway Patrol posted video of the Aviation Unit locating the suspect. This story has been updated to reflect the new information.
Authorities have taken a man into custody after a pursuit with authorities in Lake Township Wednesday morning.
Lake Township police received a call of a breaking and entering at a Super 8 Motel in Millbury just before 5:30 a.m. An office saw the suspect in a pickup truck and chased him on I-280 near Walbridge Road before the pursuit ended in a crash. The suspect then fled the scene, leaving a woman inside the vehicle, police said.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) Aviation Unit assisted police, and found the suspect around 10 a.m. hiding in a tree before arresting him. The man and woman were taken to an area hospital, and the man will face charges, police said.
On Thursday, OSHP posted video from the Aviation Unit on Twitter, in which the suspect's heat signature can be seen as he hides in a tree an estimated 30 feet above the ground.
According to a Facebook post from Northwood police, Northwood Schools went into lockdown while police searched for the suspect in a nearby ball field.
Due to the incident, Lake Local Schools also made accommodations and placed the district on a two-hour delay schedule. Shortly after 8:30 a.m., district officials said in a Facebook post that Lake Township police gave the all-clear.
Lake middle school and high school operated on a two-hour delay schedule, while the elementary school operated during normal hours Wednesday.
