TOLEDO (WTOL) - A local group of citizens and business people has formed a political action group called Take Back Toledo. The group aims to collect the 20,000 signatures required to put a recall of Toledo's mayor on the ballot.
If collected, the initiative will go on the September primary ballot. Mayor Finkbeiner's current term ends in January. On their web site, the group says "Even though his existing term only runs until January 2010, he must be removed to prevent further nonfeasance, malfeasance and misfeasance which have earmarked his administration."
The drive kicks off Monday evening, January 12 at 5:30 at the Erie Street Market Chowder House downtown. A second kickoff meeting takes place Wednesday, January 14 at 5:30 p.m. at Dave's Home Cooked Foods on Reynolds Rd.
This is the third time a petition drive to recall the mayor has taken place. There were two others in 1999 and 2007. Both were unsuccessful.
