The Marina District project is a bare parcel of property today. In a few years, Developer Larry Dillin believes it could become a thriving waterfront community for both businesses and residents.
All of this could be ripped apart by Toledo City Councilman Frank Szollosi. Here's why. He proposed an ordinance that requires all of the labor to be performed by union workers only.
This idea threatens the entire project. It's unnecessary. The trades will get plenty of work here anyway, without the ordinance. And it sends an anti-business message to any developer in America who is thinking about building something here.
City council has 3 ways to deal with this idiocy:
1. They can pass it. This kills the Marina District project. That means no new jobs -- union or otherwise.
2. They can overwhelmingly vote it down.
3. Or they can bury it so far in a committee that it never sees the light of day.
