SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP -- There was one fatality in a motorcycle accident at Dorr and Centennial just before 1 a.m. Wednesday.
Troopers tell us they aren't sure exactly what happened, but it appears Michael M. Merritt, 53, lost control going around the curve and hit a guard rail.
Merritt, who was from Sylvania, was driving a 2007 Harley Davidson northbound on Centennial Rd. between Dorr and Bancroft. He lost control of his motorcycle, hit the guardrail and flew into a ditch, police say. He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
A neighbor who heard the crash called 9-1-1.
Merritt was taken to St. Vincent-Mercy Medical Center by Life Flight Air Ambulance.
