Community organizer puts together trip to honor 'Queen of Soul'

With last week's passing of the Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin, many are left looking for a way to pay tribute. Local community organizer, Michael Huggins, is providing that opportunity.

TOLEDO, OH (WTOL) - With last week's passing of the Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin, many are left looking for a way to pay tribute.

Local community organizer, Michael Huggins, is providing that opportunity.

In the past, Huggins has arranged trips all over the country for historical events, including presidential inaugurations.

A public viewing will begin on August 28 at the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History in Detroit, and a fleet of busses will be there from Toledo.

"We're going to take Toledoans up to the Motown, Detroit, Michigan next Tuesday and pay our respects to the icon, musician, Aretha Franklin, and I'm rallying the whole Northwest Ohio," Huggins said. "I'm sure there's a lot of individuals out there, may not have transportation to come ride with me up to Detroit, Michigan to the museum to pay their respect to Aretha Franklin."

The busses will leave next Tuesday morning from Garden Lake Banquet Hall, 5359 Dorr Street.

It costs $30 per person.

If you're interested in being a part of this trip, contact Huggins at 419-490-0364. There are plenty of spots available to go.

Huggins said that they can take up to 400 people, but you have to sign up by this Saturday at around 6 p.m. at the latest.
